ANGIE & OJ
ORIGINALS, BRAZILIAN, JAZZ & MODERN SOUL
(Duo I Trio I Quartet)

“ Angela Iimura, a rich angelic voice with the heart of Eva Cassidy and the stylish warmth of Anita O’Day “

The mysterious calm of the ocean at dusk, New York, the mist that creeps in on a mountain side, April in Paris, Spring Cherry Blossoms in Japan, kissing someone for the first time, the bush after rain: This duo casts an enchantment that's hard to define.

Influenced by musical greats like Astrud Gilberto, Ella Fitzgerald, Nancy Wilson, Chet Baker, Cannonball Adderly, Jimmy Heath, Erykah Badu, and Antonio Carlos Jobim, their music is elegant, sophisticated, and as innocent and welcoming as Spring.
Swingin' Jazz, Brazilian Melodies & rhythms, soulful R&B, and a handful of well crafted originals. They do it all well. Featuring pedigree musicians Angela Iimura (Guitar & Vocals), and Oj Newcomb (Double Bass, Guitar & Percussion), this duo is a match made in heaven.

ANGIE & OJ have just released there first recording. Recorded LIVE at the Brisbane Jazz Club, It features both their own original songs as well as carefully selected cover songs.

ANGELA IIMURA
w/ THE FAR EAST ALL STARS ENSEMBLE

ORIGINALS, BRAZILIAN, JAZZ & MODERN SOUL
(5 to 8 Piece Jazz Ensemble) Lead By Oj Newcomb - Double Bass

The Far East All Stars Ensemble are a group of the finest musician from the Far East of Australia & lead by Bassist Oj Newcomb.

It features an 'All Star' cast of musicians such as: Jamie Clark (Gtr), John Reeves (Pno), Lochlan Mitchel (Gtr), Nathan Goldman (Dms), Hark Henman (Dms), Nick Aggs (T.Sax), Carl Harvoe (Tpt), Phil Noy (Saxes), John Hoffman (Tpt) & Sam Mitchel (Dms)

As you can see by the list of Musicians, 'All Stars' speaks for itself. 'Far East' however comes from a few different places :

1. Our Local Area's of performing are mostly in the South East of Queensland & North East New South Wales (Far Eastern Australia) & Oj has spent the majority of his professional life living & setting up Low Pressure Productions on the coast of Byron Bay, the most Easterly point of Australia.

2. Over the Past 12 Years, Oj & many of the musicians he has worked closely with have studied or traveled to many Eastern parts of the world. These Ancient Cultures carry incredibly interesting & rich musical textures, rhythms & melodies. eg. India, Japan, Nepal, Dubai & Thailand. As well as Africa & Brazil. This has been a massive inspiration to Oj as an artist & musician.

3. Last but not least, it is a dedication to one of the most swinging & inspirational musician/band leader/composers of the Jazz Age. Duke Ellington.

" Far East Suite was composed in fits and starts following the band's State Department-sponsored tour of Syria, India, Sri Lanka, Iran, Iraq and other countries." All About Jazz-New York

Reviews & Testimonials

" I really enjoyed the angela and OJ disc.....must
have played it 50 times....been in the car sound system since leaving byron.....
always loved that bossa nova sound....angie's voice is soooo sweet and the
back up beat is soooooooo cruisy.....just love it. "

- Albe Falzon (Morning of the Earth - Classic Surf Film)

“A few nights ago we were at The Brisbane Jazz Club to hear Angela limura and the
Far East All Stars. We knew most of the musicians but had not heard Angela limura.
The band played a couple of great instrumentals which set the mood. Then we were
introduced to Angela. On stage stepped this beautiful young lady with a large red
flower in her hair. Rather stunning even before she sang. An introduction to the
song and then this beautiful soft lilting voice silenced the audience. Another song
and another then Angela accompanied herself on guitar and with rhythm support
enthralled us with Brazilian songs. Not to let us down lightly we were knocked out
with songs styled by the great Nancy Wilson with arrangements for the group a la
Cannonball Adderly. Was there no end to this lady.

The CD ‘Angie & OJ” Line at the BJC was on sale and we couldn’t resist. The CD is a great
mixture of Brazil, Jazz Standards played and sung impeccably by Angie and given
wonderful backing from Oj Newcomb on Double bass and Jamie Clark on guitar. This
CD is a must for relaxing moonlight dinners with friends or just to quietly enjoy. We
hope a follow up is soon.”

‘

It sounds like Eva Cassidy meets Stan Getz, or Norah Jones jams with Kenny Burrell
and Ray Brown. This is a timeless sound, relaxing, elegant and the sort of music people
request for the most special of occasions, like weddings. Angela is blessed with a
beautiful voice suited to this genre. She sings in Portuguese and English on this album.
The guitar of Jamie Clark is world class jazz at its best, crossing several genres from
Samba to Swing and backed by the prolific double bass of Owen James Newcomb, this
is an album for the connoisseur. One gets the feeling we are going to hear of Angela
Imura, her cover of the Cindi Lauper track ‘Time after Time’ will not only make people
step back and acknowledge her natural talent, it will make them want to tell their
friends.’

"Long and lean and tall and tanned ..... such bossa -styled beats mesmerise my head as I chill out on Angie Iimura and OJ Newcombs "LIVE" dish of Brazilian laced delights. A mix of originals and Jobim and etc classics conjure the smooth ocean waves of Copacabana and those all so small bikinis .... a "Cool jazz" masterpiece ..."

- Stephen McParland, author WALTZING THE PLANK

“Angie and Oj played before and during our wedding ceremony. They were the best
decision we made for the big day (apart from deciding to get married!). Angie chose the
song that I walked down the aisle to and it was perfect. Angies voice and Ojs music take
your breathe away, and leave you with goosebumps. No one could have done it better - they made our day the best it could have been”

- Cristie and Jason Downing

Far East All Stars (Funk Band) “we are forever grateful for the great tunes and vibe
that had our whole reception dancing. You guys are amazing and a highlight of our
wedding day”
