Ryan Heywood has got his third edition of ‘bodysurf’ online today and there are some really nice photos to look at +plus+ his previous two editions available to view, for free…

Hand creations for the packaging of one of Shannon Sol R Carroll’s solo albums this one titled ‘Sound Sketches Vol one’.
These albums were taken on ‘The Present’ film tour in Australia, where shannon played live music with his good friend Oj Newcomb on double bass. People loved the music and the cd’s (signed and numbered 1-100) sold out and we hope to have more sometime soon.
The album had several very tasty tracks including; a cover to the Richie Havens classic ‘Freedom,’ Sol’s ‘Rise Like The Sun’ and two layered sound sketches at the end of the album that are totally unique and offer a total contrast to the ‘Band Of Frequencies’ sound.
This link goes to an amazon page where you can hear tracks from ‘The Present’ soundtrack. Shannon Sol R Carroll helped organise the African sound in the film and the band they played with is called Nbadva Kure. The soundtrack is also available through Brushfire records.
Jacob Stuth with one of his timber experiments at the pre-party for the Noosa premiere of ‘The Present’ surf film.

‘Harry The Hat’ has been floating around Byron Bay, helping with illustrations for the ‘re-loaded’ book….but mostly he has been drawing hundreds of futuristic looking characters, and I mean hundreds. This is just one. Let us know if you like it. (AC)
New historic surfing book available in England. We have heard good things about the work of Roger Mansfield from Bob Weeks, one of the photographers featured in the book. Above are two of Bob Weeks photos of the cult figure Gordon Burgis at Angourie in the 1960’s.
Artist Harry Daily is in Byron Bay Australia at the moment. Anyone interested in his original works, or getting something one off, should get in touch.
Harry painted the cover to the ‘switch-foot’ book and also the cover to the soon to be released ‘switch-foot re-loaded’ book.
Asymmetric surfboards
Andrew Crockett took this photo of Peter Drouyn in 2003 at Burleigh Heads.
Check the rail line in the tail, it has a subtle displacement front end, rolled bottom…a sophisticated stick. Drouyn was surfing unbelievable on it.
Drouyn said he started experimenting with asymmetric boards in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s and that his design has over 25 years of refinement. Drouyn said he went finless in the evolution too, then muttered a few names of ‘finless pioneers’ of the modern era, the guys who get magazine time….that was where the conversation ended.
Another one of Drouyn’s ideas he got ridiculed for.
Chris Brock: ‘I remember very early on George saying ‘if you want to win contests, just move the widest point back, narrow the nose, put the thickness in the tail and you can go out there flap it around, the judges will love it.’ I was pretty over contests by then, but we used to laugh about it. We were more interested in just making boards that really worked for the epic waves we were fortunate enough to have to ourselves.’
Photo above is a modern surfboard by Chris Brock, and a concept he has been tuning for 30 years. If you want more flow in your surfing, visit Chris Brock’s page and ultimately try and purchase a different ride. His shortboards and hulls are super smooth, Brock makes real nice traditional longboards too.
