We decided to post this image after reading the latest SW magazine at a friends house.

In SW magazine the story about the ‘the birth of the twin fin’ is …well it is just another example of how surfing history seems to be portrayed.

We thought there would be people out there who are interested in the facts.

This image is an early Twin Fin by George Greenough (circa mid 1960’s)

30 years after Tom Blake’s experiments.

Greenough suggested that he tried the twin fin but it was unpredictable handling. He moved the fins closer and closer together until eventually they were in the middle of the board, again, as a single fin…. and this worked better.

If the corporate media has to label someone with the ‘twin fin’ what about Geoff McCoy? There was a period in the early 1970’s where McCoy was labelled ‘The King Of The Twin Fin’ but that does not get a mention in the ‘birth of the twin fin’ story in SW Magazine..

surfresearch.com.au gets our vote of being neutral and accurate.

read the twin fin history here.
