SEA OF DARKNESS now showing

By last Summer, a number of bizarre events brought me to Paso Robles, California, where I would spend quite some time. Lots of people might think: “Hmmm. Paso. White pickup trucks, white people, rodeo, country music, and uh … no thats about it!” These things are there to be sure, but so is some really beautiful country in what’s become a world-class wine producing region. On one night where the daytime temperatures were right around 105, I ventured out about 15 miles west of town, where the city lights wouldnt really hurt a long-exposure photo. And so I sat in the foothills of the Santa Lucia Mountains, in a rural district called Adelaida, stuck the camera on a tripod, rolled down the windows since it was still 80 degrees outside, listed to the bizarre and beautiful sounds of distant coyotes on the prowl, and in a few hours wound up with “Vineyard Starscape.”
