The Music of LOW PRESSURE 3

The Low Pressure 3 have been drawn together through a common quest to immerse themselves in sound and ocean waves as much as possible. The members of the ensemble are all well respected musicians in their own right and bring a wealth of creativity from their various projects and pour it all into the sonic boiling pot. As an artistic departure from their usual bands, The LP3 provides an opportunity to collaborate, write and deliver some fresh sounds in a relaxed Low Pressure environment.

Shannon Sol Carroll and OJ Newcomb (Band of Frequencies, Afro Dizzi Act) first collaborated with Fingers Malone (The Winnie Coopers, Ash Grunwald, The Fingers Malone Ensemble) whilst co creating the soundtrack to the surf film ‘Life Like Liquid’ with Dave Rastovich in 2006. The films cast and soundtrack features jams and improvisations by well-respected surfers and musicians including Ash Grunwald, Terepai Richmond (d.i.g., The Whitlams) and Tony Hughes (King Tide) to name a few.

This collective became known as the Low Pressure Sound System which then toured the East Coast of Australia and also Japan to launch the film. The Low Pressure 3 represents a core sample of the collective and anyone who has experienced their recordings will recognise the distinctive sounds they create. Since making Life Like Liquid, the crew have all maintained a close bond and have also forged new creative directions. Fingers Malone now plays drums in Ash Grunwalds band and Terepai Richmond played drums on Band of Frequencies last album ‘Under the Sun’. Whenever there’s a chance to play music together, hang out and surf the LP collective will be there. This tour is just that occasion so keep your ear to the ground for The Low Pressure 3, on the road with Ash Grunwald in the last weekend June.
