Peter Crawford
The true status of Peter Crawford and his legacy is still being realised both in Australia's surfing history and around the world. With his sudden passing in bali, from an apparent snakebite, this colourful flower bloomed short and sweet. Being a major surfing photographer for both Australian surfing publication and the big US surfing magazines, PC has a library up there with the best in surfings archives. Some of the vintage classic surfing photography that came from PC's lens is still alive and in good health, but much of it has been lost to various events that are not worth mentioning.
Money raised from the sale of any of these images goes into restoring the Peter Crawford collection, dusting off slides and getting them scanned for prosperity.
This is a real icon in Surfing History and some of these images are destined for cult status in the surfing memoribilia world...in fact, they already are.
Peter Crawfords images are for sale, though at a premium. There have been some more images uncovered lately, and Justin Crawford is doing a good job of archiving the work and preserving the legacy.
Most of Peter Crawford's images are available as prints if the customer is prepared to understand that the images are highly sought after and valuable. Recently one of Peter Crawford's photos of Michael Peterson sold for $4500 at the 30th anniversary of the stubbies surfing contest at Burleigh heads. It was signed by MP and a one off large print aperhaps bought by a fatcat, but a stoke all the same.
