The Music of Shannon Sol Carroll
Shannon Sol Carroll’s innovative musicianship has taken him on a journey to some of the far reaches of the globe and has been granted the opportunity to collaborate with some incredible artists in his travels.Developing an intuitive, often improvisational form of guitar playing and singing, his unique sound has mostly been expressed and experienced within a band context. Whether as the vocalist and guitarist of Band of Frequencies, Afro Dizzi Act, Resin Dogs, Banawurun Low Pressure Sound System, 20for7, Sub Freq, the Visitors, Soul Prism or any one of the collectives he has featured in over the years, his influence and style has always shone through within his collaborations.
The above footage is a segment of a live solo soundtrack performed to George Greenoughs' acclaimed documentary "Dolphin Glide" recorded at Avoca Beach Picture Theatre.
Shannon's playing, compositions and productions are also featured in several surf films, including Dave Rastovich’s ‘Life Like Liquid’, Cyrus Sutton’s ‘Under the Sun’ and also the much anticipated 3rd film by Thomas Campbell, ‘The Present’ which has just been released worldwide with a great response. Shannon is currently working with George Greenough creating soundtracks to several of his new short films.
Recently he has begun performing more solo shows, allowing a new aspect of his playing to evolve. His sets feature acoustic versions of songs from his various bands, some selected covers of artists that inspire him as well as looped grooves and sound-scapes created live, entirely with a guitar, a loop pedal and effects.
His close friend and long time collaborator OJ Newcomb often joins him on double bass, bringing his signature rich bass tones and masterful playing into the mix. OJ plays in both Afro Dizzi Act and Band of Frequencies with Shannon and has also performed with some of the most respected artists in the country including James Morrison, Wendy Mathews, Scott Tinkler and Brazilian group The View from Madeline’s Couch.

Nathan Oldfield : 'So happy to hear Shannon Carroll play a seminal, sincere, special solo instrumental piece to accompany George Greenough's epic 'Dolphin Glide' footage at Avoca Beach Theatre last week. It was one of those moments that you wish could last forever: sipping a glass of red wine, watching the highlights of a genius filmmaker's life work, listening to an artist's beautifully unfolding songcraft. I was breathless & smiling & absorbed. Just a simply gorgeous, rich passage of time that I was very grateful to be involved in.'
'Shannon's in a band called Afro Dizzi Act & their new album 'Peace Love & Unity' is pure epicness. Our kids have been dancing to it all week. If you're interested please hear more at afro dizzi act
Shannon Sol Carroll is also the lead singer/guitarist with Band Of Frequencies
