The Music of Solafreq

Solafreq is the DJ moniker for Shannon Sol Carroll (Afro Dizzi Act & Band of Frequencies), a name well known amongst sonic connoisseurs as a trusted purveyor of fine sounds.
A second generation musician and DJ, Shannon has been surrounded by a diverse array of music and great records since he was in the womb. Both of his parents were spinning vinyl in their family club, 'The Galaxy', since 1976 and he still plays choice selections from their family record collection at every gig.

Solafreq presents a royal blend of sounds and styles based on what he calls 'Essential Listening'. These are the artists and sounds that he feels anyone and everyone who is passionately into music must hear.

Combining these essential classics with fresh versions, re-mixes and quality new releases, Solafreq draws from the the rich history of Soul, Funk, Afro Beat, Blues, Reggae, Jazz, Conscious and Old School Hip Hop, Latin, Afro-Cuban, Dub and then ventures into all of the contemporary and electronic forms they have spawned.

Every Solafreq set is a sound sermon that pays homage to the lineage of African music, the sounds it has influenced, and the styles it has then become throughout the history of recorded music and into the modern day.


Gigs:
Fireside Fridays at Embassy XO in Sunshine Beach is the place to be in winter. Solafreq has begun a residency playing from 7pm till 10pm every Friday. Situated on the corner of Duke St. and Bryan St. Sunshine Beach QLD. (07) 54554460


Previously Solafreq was the resident DJ on Fridays at Siana in the city. He was also the Wednesday night resident DJ at The Buddha Bar, Byron Bay for 3 years and has played at some of Brisbanes finest venues including Zuri, The Press Club, The Bowery, Ric's Bar, the Sol Bar, The Great Northern as well as sets at Woodford Folk Festival and many more parties and supports.
