Sunstone perform unique versions of great songs by legendary songwriters. With a wealth of experience as acclaimed original songwriters in their own right, the members of the band have the musicianship to bring these artists’ songs to life. They have specifically chosen songs from a wide variety of eras and styles so that a broad range of people will have a connection to their repertoire. Some of the artists covered include Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Bill Withers, Fat Freddies Drop, Ray LaMontagne, Jack Johnson, Stevie Wonder, The Meters, Al Green, Bob Marley, MGMT, Red Hot Chili Peppers, John Butler Trio, Powderfinger and many more.

The core duo features the exceptional musical talents of Shannon Sol Carroll on vocals and guitars (acoustic and electric) and OJ Newcomb on basses (double bass & electric). Both are well-renowned in Australia and internationally for their original bands (Afro Dizzi Act and Band of Frequencies) as well as for their work with other artists including The Resin Dogs and The View from Madeline’s Couch. They are also well known amongst the surf culture, having featured in and composed soundtracks for several internationally acclaimed surf films - The Present, Under the Sun, Life Like Liquid and Believe.

The group is very versatile and easily adaptable, being able to cater for almost any circumstance. They can cover all aspects of an event providing instrumental background music, dinner music, acoustic chill, soul and funk right through to good time party and dance music. Depending on your requirements, Sunstone can perform as a duo or expand to become a trio with percussion or drums, a four piece with keyboards and drums or a five piece with keyboards, drums and percussion. Specific songs can be learnt by the band, although prior notice is required. Sunstone can also cater for special appearances by talented guests who may be in the audience. Shannon is also a DJ and is able to add that feature as an extra element to an event as it progresses.
