As The View From Madeleine’s Couch head into their 11th year together, they remain one of Australia’s finest world|fusion ensembles, their energy and passion for Brazilian music undiminished. Their second album ‘Casa do Boa Vida’, has just been released through Vitamin Records. ‘Bom Fazer’, from the album is nominated in the World Music category of the QSong Awards, and ‘Palmeiras do Sul’, also from the new album, has been chosen for the soundtrack of a U.S. Indie film.
The band’s sound is as seductive as ever; from the lush, lounge-vibe of bossa nova inspired tunes, to rhythmic songs flavoured by the groups experiences in Brazil studying with master percussionists (Rio Maracatu, Durval Pereira), and playing with legends like Alberto Farah (pianist/producer/m.d. – Elza Suarez, Joyce), and Marcio Bahia (drums – Hermeto Pascoal, Hamilton de Holanda).

OzBrazilian music at it’s best.
Influenced by the folk and contemporary musical traditions of Brazil, Madcouch extend a warm welcome into their world with the promise of a unique musical experience – there is simply no other band in the country that sounds like this! The group was invited to perform in Rio de Janeiro in ’08 & wrote many of the songs on their new album while there. From funked-up forro to old-school bossa-beat, gorgeous melodies and deeply addictive rhythms, theirs is a joyous and heartfelt concoction that features the luscious sounds of the vibraphone & vocals in Portuguese.

Review Casa da Boa Vida – The View from Madeleines Couch
" This third cd release by the Brisbane based OzBrazilian musos will be a delight to their ever growing crowd of admirers. Their first cd, Tranquilo burst onto the scene in 2004 and took us all by surprise. It featured the songwriting of Kym Ambrose and Anje West, (the heart and soul of the View) with tracks inspired by their mutual love of Brazilian music and musicians.
This was followed by Sabor, a 3 track cd only available at their gigs or through their website. This grouping of songs underlined just how good their compositions are – a very Latin sound, yet still distinctively, well different, I think defined and underpinned by Kym Ambrose’s vibraphone, and Anje’s vocals.
Casa da Boa Vida opens with a track written by Joyce, a singer who was instrumental in Anje West’s early appreciation of Brazilian music. Anje and Kym are once again joined by Mark Henman on drums and percussion, Jamie Clark on guitar, and Owen Newcomb on bass. Five guest artists who collaborated with them on this cd complement the sensuous sound. In my opinion, this “sound” of the View, has in greater part to do with the beautifully woven vocals of Anje West. Her voice never distracts you from the melodies or the rhythms, but guides you through, highlighting the inherent joy of Brazilian grooves, and this is especially true of the songs she has written with Kym and the rest of the group.
I’m pleased to note there are 3 instrumental tracks on Casa - Praia and Autumn Rain, both written by Kym Ambose featuring vibes, and 18:00, written by Kym and Beto Lopes featuring Beto on nylon string guitar.
Casa da Boa Vida continues the love affair The View From Madeleines Couch began with OzBrazilian music in Tranquilo, but has definitely heightened my appreciation of these fine musicians. This is to me a desert island disc – I love it."

The View From Madelines Couch (TVFMC) has been bringing the tastiest Brazilian vibes to Australian audiences for over ten years. Touring to Brazil in '08 to take up an invitation to write and perform in Rio, the group returned to record their third album ‘Casa da Boa Vida’ (house of the good life), with producer Paulie B, and now find their songs hitting national airwaves (Triple J, Radio National, ABC FM), and the single ‘Bom Fazer’ nominated in the World Music category in the 2009 QSong Awards.
The band’s take on Brazilian inspired music, with influences ranging from bossa & forro to samba-reggae, has seen them on festival stages from Far Nth Qld (Yungaburra), to Woodford (5 yrs in a row), and the Bellingen Global Carnival.
Featuring the gorgeous, lush sounds of the vibraphone, mighty percussion & drum breaks and languid vocals in Portuguese and English, TVFMC are a band of inspired, deeply committed musicians who revel in the glorious sounds of their unique OzBrazilian fusion.
