Biography
Eddie Sawden
photographer

Eddie Sawden is a keen surfer himself. Eddie has been taking nice photographs since the 1960’s and his images shed a beautiful feel and acknowledge some classic surfing characters including Ma and Pa Bendall and Snowy McAllister.
Eddie Sawden still shapes nice traditional longboards and surfs as good as many of the young ‘hotdoggers’ of the modern era. Back in the 1960’s he was taking photos and surfing with his brother Bernard Sawden who is featured in many of his classic images. Eddie is a Currumbin kid and back in those days the waves were best just down the road from where the point is today, near the existing Currumbin surfclub.
Eddie continues to attend surfing gatherings up and down the East coast of Australia and often puts on photographic exhibitions of his work. His photographs are available for sale in a variety of options.
We thank Eddie for his images of Peter Drouyn surfing Kirra in the old days, as there are next to no images of Peter Drouyn surfing at Kirra and some say it was a sight to behold. Maybe the best things do go undocumented…
